Detailed Description of the Notice of Electronic Case Filing (NEF)

  1. NEF’s are sent from cmecfdataquality@nmb.uscourts.gov.  Bcc:lists all recipients receiving the NEF.

The subject line contains the case number, name of the docket entry, and the chapter.  You can use this information to filter e-mails into folders or trash.

  2. The free look is only available for 15 days.  Download a copy to your computer or print it to paper to avoid PACER charges.

  3. The court and database used to generate the NEF is displayed.  This is helpful if you work in multiple courts.

  4. This section shows the filer name, the date, and the time the pleading was filed.  The Case Name, Case Number, and Document Number are displayed here.  Remember to access the document through email to obtain the one free look.

  5. This is the docket text that was created when the pleading was filed.

  6. The Original filename is displayed.  This is what the pleading was named by the filer.

NOTE: Everyone can see this name - judges, court staff, and the public.

The Electronic document Stamp contains an alphanumeric string which is used by the Clerk's office to verify the authenticity of the Notice of Electronic Filing and the associated document.

  7. This is the list of the parties in the case that will receive the NEF copy of the pleading.  This is service to those parties, except as noted by law, such as an adversary complaint.  Check the code if you are unsure about service requirements.

  8. This is the list of all parties in the case that will NOT receive the NEF copy of the pleading.  They must be served via U.S. Mail or personal service.
